Come to le depart, depart with a souvenir made right here
The folks at Fabrication are recycling, upcycling and making bespoke items, to get ready for the biggest bike race in the world, congregating close to their shop in July
The social enterprise, which supports micro crafts businesses, is located in The Light, close to the start line, and sells work by around 70 local artists, designers and makers, making it the largest souvenir shop in the area for those wanting to take a little piece, and even a taste, of Yorkshire back with them
Alongside their usual items for sale some of the sellers have been making bike themed cushions, clothing, artwork, jewellery and homewares, as well as Yorkshire rose items
Throughout June, and on TDF day itself, they will be running bike themed craft workshops in The Light courtyard printing Victorian cycling images on bags, wooden items and decoupage, making jewellery, upcycling bike parts into other items and badge making. You can also see how you may have looked in Victorian cycling clothes by having your picture taken in their photo board
If you are planning a picnic after the event why not take advantage of their locally grown and made cordials, chocolates and chutneys, completing the hamper with picnic platters, jugs, blankets and bottle openers. If you’ve had a go at the route yourself and are aching after exerting yourself then try our post exercise bath soaks and massage oil to get yourself moving again

Spotlight on the seller - Use or Ornament
I'm
Lucy Sangster. I've always loved painting and drawing. I enjoy
escaping into the wild to capture the shapes of crooked trees and
creeping lichen, quiet hedgerows and the epic sweep of moorland.
The
Arts and Crafts movement inspired me because over a hundred years ago
they believed in the benefit of good handmade design to both makers
and customers. So, my work is made to last, is designed to make
recycling and reuse more fun, and has high green and ethical
standards.
My
Love
Local
range celebrates our best landmark buildings. Icons of our past are
all around, like seeing our past fashion decisions in a photo album.
Is that really who we were? I handprint onto ethically made organic
cotton t-shirts; local companies print badges and mugs for me.
Green
Glam
improves, embellishes and recycles beautifully. Good clothes made
better, accessories to help you fall back in love with your wardrobe,
delicate recycled jewellery and recycled fabrics made into decorative
duck feather cushions.

Spotlight on the seller - Hart of glass
The Hart of Glass
seeks to offer a range of unique fused, slumped, recycled and stained glass giftware, jewellery and homeware at affordable prices.
Designed and made in Leeds in my home studio, I take inspiration from nature, colour, light, textures and used objects. A large range of glass is used in my one-off
pieces and each one is meticulously created with love.
All jewellery is made by firing multiple layers
of the finest ‘Bullseye’ and dichroic art glass to achieve a various
multi-dimensional effects.
Recycled bottles are chosen carefully for their
colour, shape, texture or design which impacts on their final use. Bottles are
kiln-fused flat to make cheeseboards, or slumped into shapes for dip dishes,
spoon rests, candle bridges and plates.
I use special enamel paints for
commission messages or patterns, for instance on a champagne bottle for an
anniversary.
I also enjoy enhancing colourless and
transparent glass with inclusions such as coloured ground glass (frit), wafer
thin glass and copper sheet or wire.
I use this technique in my key rings,
plaques, coasters and bowls. Again, this provides me with a wide scope of
possible designs and products, which are always developing.
Bespoke and commission pieces are always
welcome. Please email me with your design idea to thehartofglass@gmail.com

stained glass windows. They sparkle and shine when sun is out, but when the darkness
sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”

Spotlight on the seller - Needlecase
Jean Walne and Judith Schur are a
mother and daughter team who are passionate about knitting and needlework of
all kinds. Their shop, Needlecase, where
they offer a wide range of yarns and haberdashery, opened in September 2010, in
the small North Yorkshire town of Tadcaster.
www.needlecase.co.uk
These unique knitting kits have been
designed by Judith who is currently studying for a City and Guilds
qualification in Knitted Textiles. The range of kits available is very small
but Judith is hoping to make some additions throughout 2014.
All of the kits use British yarn from
West Yorkshire Spinners, based in Keighley.
Chain Stripes – an Easy Knit, this cushion is
designed to really show off the natural colours of the Jacob wool and it is
available in 4 different ‘colour ways’, each one taking a different shade as
its background colour. There are 3 coconut buttons included which complement
the natural colours of the wool.
Tile Petal –in beautiful, soft Blue Faced Leicester
wool, requires some experience. There are 5 colours available on a cream
background.
Diamond
Cable – again this cushion requires
some experience. It is knitted in Jacob Aran weight wool and is available in
Ecru and Light Grey which are both natural colours from the Jacob sheep. The
wool from West Yorkshire Spinners is fabulous quality and beautiful to work
with. The cushion is fastened with three enormous coconut buttons which I love.

Spotlight on the seller - Elves and Fairies UK
Ever since Carolyn's little boy was born he has dribbled ridiculous amounts, to the point that she would be changing him every couple of hours. Carolyn tried many different brands
but was never been fully satisfied for one reason or another and so this is
where elves and fairies uk began.
Carolyn's bibs have a
three-layer system so they are extremely effective at keeping even the
dribbliest babies dry. They are also reversible so you have a choice of which
side takes your fancy at that time.
Carolyn has also
chosen a range of fabrics ranging from
funky, cool
and retro, to traditional, vintage and classic. They are stylish, as well as a
fantastic addition to any outfit.
All the bibs
have been made with tender love and care by Carolyn with you and your little angel in
mind.

Spotlight on the Seller - Kallisto Cremes
Kallisto Creams is a small business creating handmade natural skincare
products with Maria at the helm of production.
After years of using expensive
high street brands to look after my skin I stumbled upon a number of articles
which uncovered the hidden harmful effects of their chemical ingredients.
Considering these products were
applied on the skin every day and night and approximately sixty percent of that
is absorbed by the body, would you purposely cover your skin in something that
you knew was actually harmful and poisonous?
Now my passion for
healthy skin led me making my own products without being laden with harmful
chemicals; healthy and radiant skin achieved the natural way.
Kallisto Creams is a lifestyle choice for those ethically conscious
individuals who desire moisturised, protected and radiant skin but seek an
alternative to the mass-produced chemically laden toiletries and cosmetics
without sacrificing any luxury.
We have created remedies that
nourish, hydrate and rejuvenate your skin and help maintain a youthful
natural balance.
All our products are handmade
and infused with the traditional benefits of herbs, fruit, vegetables and oils;
skincare the way Mother Nature intended.
Our range of natural
body creams and skin care products are handmade in small batches so that you
will receive them at their best.
This means you receive
your skincare product in the freshest possible condition and we can use the
smallest amount of preservative possible.
All our products meet with the
current UK and EU Cosmetics Products Regulations and have passed a Safety
Assessment by an independent laboratory.
You will find all my products in
The Light Leeds at the Fabrication shop
which is social enterprise which aims to
provide help and development for over 40 micro craft businesses.
Thank you,
Maria Psarra-Parker
