Easter goodies

Easter doesn't have to be all about the chocolate (although if you get down to the shop quickly we have some beautiful easter chocs to tempt you!), we also have some beautiful items if you're looking to decorate your home.

Sara Gartside Designs has made some spring themed additions to her range of handpainted, jewel embellished, heart shaped keepsakes. Sizes start at 5cm wide for £6.50.

Or cheer up your breakfast time with these cute little egg-warmers...

If you like to give Easter cards, then these handmade cards by Emma Manners should go down well (£2.75 each)

And if you're looking for the perfect gift, how about these cute dryer balls from Little Beau Sheep?
Made from 100% wool these limited edition Easter bunny dryer balls come complete with a fluffy tail! Simply pop them in your tumble dryer and they will reduce your drying times by separating the layers of laundry, allowing the hot air to circulate. They also eliminate the need for fabric softeners or dryer sheets as they soften clothes naturally, increasing fluffiness and reducing static as the dryer tumbles. Simple. Natural.

Stuck for those last few gifts?

Are you stuck for those last few gifts for Christmas? (Or maybe you don't know where to start?) If that's the case then we definitely have the answer!

Our sellers have been hard at work creating their beautiful handmade items and while they've been flying off the shelves there is still time left to bag a gift or two (or few!) before Christmas arrives.

There are items for a wide range of budgets and you truly can find something for everyone in the shop, as evidenced by the fact that some of our sellers have done all their Christmas shopping in store, so why not pop along for a look?
Plus, on Saturday 19th Dec we have the following events happening in the shop:

The infamous Dr Geof will be in attendance from 10 until 6pm, drawing his unmistakable portraits. Perfect for presents or just your own mantlepiece so do drop in, or book a sitting, & the good Dr will immortalise you on canvas in his own inimitable way. See our facebook event for more details.

Safehands Massage will also be in the therapy room from 9.30 until 7 p.m. offering massage taster sessions for just £5, so call in to for a well earned break from the hard work.

Gingham Saturday is here again

Forget Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the second annual Gingham Saturday is here again! Taking place this coming Saturday, 5th December, this event sees the majority of Fabrication's sellers offering discounts on a wide range of items for one day only, so why not pop in and grab yourself a bargain?
It also coincides neatly with Small Business Saturday, and what better way to support your local small businesses than buying your Christmas presents (or a treat for yourself) from a shop full of the work of Yorkshire micro-businesses?

Spotlight on The Seller... CERAMICS AND HOMEWARE by MARGARET L GLACKIN

Originally from Ireland, I am a Leeds based ceramic artist and woodworker.
All my products are individually designed and the glazes are my unique recipes, representing Yorkshire and the coastline of County Antrim. I also produce various interior items made from reclaimed and other sustainably sourced wood. These include serving boards, log carriers, and other furniture.
Yarn Bowls: The Yarn Bowl allows the wool to be dispensed in a controlled manner so preventing it from rolling around and becoming entangled. It allows the knitter to observe the quality and beauty of the wool as it unravels. The solid body of the Yarn Bowl complements the softness of the wool. While remaining essentially functional, the Yarn Bowl can also be enjoyed as a piece of art work.
The Yarn Bowls inevitably evoke a smile and a conversation, usually stimulating memories of a knitter friend or family member (which I love as an observer of social interaction).
The glazes used are all my own recipes and inspired by the Yorkshire Moors and coastline. Latterly I have developed a “heritage” range of glazes, inspired by my childhood memories of the Antrim Coast. Domestic Ware: I make utilitarian domestic ware including furniture, dinner and tea services, drinking vessels. I also offer a bespoke service if you are looking for a particular piece of furniture or a ceramic item, made to measure.
My work is driven by a principle of challenging cheap imports and raising the profile of home-grown, well-designed handmade ceramics and woodwork.
Sculptural Work: My sculptural work is heavily influenced by my previous employment working with the homeless, my interest in politics and the built environment. Such topics are displayed in my pieces where the themes of longing for safe space can be seen. I also aim to challenge the perception of neglect and disregarded people and objects.

Spotlight on the seller - Hart of glass

The Hart of Glass  seeks to offer a range of unique fused, slumped, recycled and stained glass giftware, jewellery and homeware at affordable prices.

Designed and made in Leeds in my home studio, I take inspiration from nature, colour,  light, textures and used objects. A large range of glass is used in my one-off pieces and each one is meticulously created with love.

All jewellery is made by firing multiple layers of the finest ‘Bullseye’ and dichroic art glass to achieve a various multi-dimensional effects.

Recycled bottles are chosen carefully for their colour, shape, texture or design which impacts on their final use. Bottles are kiln-fused flat to make cheeseboards, or slumped into shapes for dip dishes, spoon rests, candle bridges and plates.

I use special enamel paints for commission messages or patterns, for instance on a champagne bottle for an anniversary.

I also enjoy enhancing colourless and transparent glass with inclusions such as coloured ground glass (frit), wafer thin glass and copper sheet or wire.

I use this technique in my key rings, plaques, coasters and bowls. Again, this provides me with a wide scope of possible designs and products, which are always developing.

Bespoke and commission pieces are always welcome. Please email me with your design idea to thehartofglass@gmail.com

“People are like stained glass windows. They sparkle and shine when sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”
