Spotlight on the seller - Use or Ornament

I'm Lucy Sangster. I've always loved painting and drawing. I enjoy escaping into the wild to capture the shapes of crooked trees and creeping lichen, quiet hedgerows and the epic sweep of moorland.

The Arts and Crafts movement inspired me because over a hundred years ago they believed in the benefit of good handmade design to both makers and customers. So, my work is made to last, is designed to make recycling and reuse more fun, and has high green and ethical standards.

My Love Local range celebrates our best landmark buildings. Icons of our past are all around, like seeing our past fashion decisions in a photo album. Is that really who we were? I handprint onto ethically made organic cotton t-shirts; local companies print badges and mugs for me.

Green Glam improves, embellishes and recycles beautifully. Good clothes made better, accessories to help you fall back in love with your wardrobe, delicate recycled jewellery and recycled fabrics made into decorative duck feather cushions.

Spotlight on the seller - Adella Creations

Adella Creations is Bernie Cooke! Adella being Bernie's middle name.
Bernie is a self confessed fabric hoarder and her stash is mainly where she gets her inspiration to create garments from.
Bernie tends to make tops and tunics mostly. She likes to make free sizes that are loose, comfortable, stylish, trendy and all her unique designs. The prices range from £20 /£80 and everything is machine and hand sewed by Bernie herself.
The pieces fit most sizes and each garment is versatile in that it can be dressed up for the evening with lots of your favourite accessories, or dressed down for work or day wear.
The tunics look good worn with boots, heels, pumps, leggings, or coordinating coloured tights.

Bernie has recently designed a range of lace fingerless gloves with embellishments, some using vintage ribbons, beads, crystals and re-purposed jewellery. These are quite unique I have not seen any others in Leeds so far...! They would be ideal to wear to weddings, parties, in fact anywhere, even 'down the pub' with your favourite jeans.
Bernie has also designed a range of brooches using silks, beads, ribbons and re-purposed jewellery.

Bernie has previously sold her creations in various markets, to friends, and since last October she has been selling in Fabrication. This is a suitable outlet as it is in the centre of Leeds, the 'vibe' is inspiring as there are many creative sellers working here, so it's a hive for inspiration and a chance to meet lovely people!
Bernie welcomes commissions and is happy to discuss ideas for designs.

Spotlight on the seller - Elves and Fairies UK

Ever since Carolyn's little boy was born he has dribbled ridiculous amounts, to the point that she would be changing him every couple of hours. Carolyn tried many different brands but was never been fully satisfied for one reason or another and so this is where elves and fairies uk began.

Carolyn's bibs have a three-layer system so they are extremely effective at keeping even the dribbliest babies dry. They are also reversible so you have a choice of which side takes your fancy at that time.

Carolyn has also chosen a range of fabrics ranging from
funky, cool and retro, to traditional, vintage and classic. They are stylish, as well as a fantastic addition to any outfit.

All the bibs have been made with tender love and care by Carolyn with you and your little angel in mind.

Seller in the Spotlight - Woolly Buddha

Woolly Buddha was born in October 2012, after my daughter and I were disappointed by the unoriginal, mass produced knitted accessories on the high street.  Our big, bold hats, scarves and stoles are designed to be statement pieces, which we hand-knit out of premium yarns such as hand-spun British Alpaca, merino wool and hand-dyed mulberry silk, much of which is produced to our specifications.

I have a passion for puzzles and problem solving, which is why I love the design process.  I use organic shapes and take inspiration from nature and architecture, to produce unusual and versatile creations.  While the design may be key, it’s also our choice of colours, texture and sumptuous materials that attract our customers in the UK and worldwide.

Our signature piece, the Divalicious stole harks back to Hollywood’s ‘golden era’, and exudes glamour and allure.  Using one of knitwear sticks can quickly turn our Versatile scarf into a cowl or wrap, giving three looks for the price of one.  All of our pieces are designed to make the wearer feel special.  We searched for a retail outlet to market our accessories and Fabrication, with its fantastic variety of original, artisan-made products, was the ideal choice.

Spotlight on the seller - Melodies Jewellery

As a practising Jeweller and Interdisciplinary Artist, I find my work reflects many of my personal motivations. My range is inspired by a passion for music, a desire to re-use redundant materials, being able to hold something meaningful close to you, popular culture and a need for progression.

I've developed my work to suit this ethos and now create a range of home-wares and gifts alongside my core jewellery

These ranges are entirely made from neglected musical materials, instruments and other musical paraphernalia.

I started my business in 2012 after years of making jewellery for fun and having graduated college with a BA (hons) in Interdisciplinary Art, the real world beaconed, but now I am back to what I love.

Spotlight on the seller - JEMS

Back in 2003, I dreamed about becoming  a furniture designer.  I began a furniture/product design degree in 2005 with high hopes... however , it was not to be. Throughout my life jewellery design has always been in the background of daily routine,  and it slowly dawned on me, “Ey, I'm all right at this!”

After this epiphany, and many pro and con lists, I enrolled for the Metalwork& Jewellery degree at Sheffield Hallam in 2008, and life took a massive silver fork in the road.

After graduating in 2012 and a month visiting Thailand, I started on the rocky road of self employment. In the beginning there were me, my saw, many broken blades and some scrap metal, but as time marched on things started to happen and I was looking more and more like a jewellery designer, and so I set up JEMS.

My inspiration is a combination of memories, rituals of British life, and a love of my county; Yorkshire. JEMS jewellery and precious objects are tools that enable the act of reminiscing on the life gone by, as well as lovely objects to treasure.

The Seaside Memories collection is a group of precious metal jewellery and objects that is inspired by childhood trips to the coast, and the junk I would bring back simply for memories sake. Every day I look at photos or hold the many pebbles scatted around the house and remember.

The act of reminiscing is such a personal thing, and to remember the days gone by helps me develop my future, it seems to be a bit of an ironic Escher puzzle, which I love. To be so attached to an object simply for memory’s sake is something truly human and to be able to design and make for clients is an honour.

JEMS is a jewellery design business that will always provide you with the human experience... as well as a proper cup of tea and a biscuit.

Spotlight on the Seller - Jewellery Star

Back in 2006 I began making my own quirky jewellery. It started with plastic character charms and beads. Then one day I bought myself Captain Red beard, the LEGO pirate with a hook and a peg leg. I fell in love with him and decided ‘I want you as a necklace!’ He turned out so well I began to experiment with other LEGO pieces and created a wide range of exciting LEGO jewellery.

I ran a market stall in Leeds city centre for 5 years, but it seemed my business sense wasn't as strong as my love of LEGO and unfortunately I had to give it up. I was supposed to stop jewellery making altogether, but once you have the creating bug, it’s very hard to give up. I am currently replenishing my stock bit by bit and am hoping to come back with a vengeance.

Fabrication has been an amazing opportunity for me and I am forever grateful to Dawn and Andrew for letting me join their enterprise. All my crafty friends too have been a great support and help to me in this time of transition. Always look forward and never give up J

Spotlight on the seller - Magnolia Restrepo Jewellery

Magnolia Restrepo was born in Colombia, in a small village in the Andes. She has worked with jewellery since she was fifteen years old, undergoing a long family apprenticeship in the art and craft of the silversmith.
Her inspiration comes from the magnificence of nature, dialogue with people, the colours of stones, from everyday life.

She delights in fusing and transforming metals, giving life to a piece that becomes magnified by the wearer.
Each piece is handmade.  Each design is produced in small quantities, and is often unique. Her jewellery is mostly made with Sterling silver (925 parts silver, 75 parts copper) but she also works with Britannia silver (958 parts silver, 42 parts copper) and fine silver (pure silver), as well as copper and semi-precious and precious stones.

Magnolia Restrepo aims to ensure that every customer is delighted with their jewellery. Each Magnolia Restrepo Jewellery design comes with a 12-month guarantee, during which items are repaired FREE.

She also works to commission. Magnolia would be delighted to discuss your ideas with you, to help ensure that you have in your hands that special jewel that you always wanted.

Fabrication has been for Magnolia a great opportunity to meet people, to find friends, and to help grow her business in a new country and in a new language.
