Seller in the spotlight: CherryPeg

Making things from fabric has always been my favourite thing to do, but when my children were babies I found that I really loved to make things for them.

Inspired by my own little ones and the wealth of wonderful fabrics I had discovered, I wanted to carry on creating, and share my designs with others.  With encouragement from my husband I set up CherryPeg, and I now design, make and sell bright modern fabric accessories for baby, home & mum.  These include bibs, baby blankets, fabric storage boxes, tote bags, make up bags and Christmas decorations.

I love to combine printed fabrics to make colourful patchworks or appliques, and further mix them with simple classics such as linen, calico and denim to come up with stylish modern creations that are lovely to look at and useful at the same time.  My favourite part of the process is product development – working on new ideas and choosing the best fabric combinations to make them in.

My plan for the future of CherryPeg is to expand my range of products.  I also intend to work on my dressmaking skills and make more of my own clothes.

Seller in The Spotlight.....Glass Bubble

Several years ago I attended a stained glass course at my local education centre (Swathmore in Leeds), and I found a passion for creating glass pieces using traditional stained glass techniques – both using copper foil for smaller pieces and lead for larger ones.

After becoming more proficient in the basics, I decided to invest in the equipment I needed to enable me to continue to develop my skills at home – that was the beginning of the journey, after filling all the windows in our home with glass creations, I began to give them away for any occasion!, and then friends and family started to commission pieces, this then led to my trying my hand at selling to the unsuspecting wider world!

And so evolved Glass Bubble – I love the translucent qualities of bubbles and although most of my work is nothing what so ever to do with bubbles, it seemed as good a name as any!

I find that I have a constant stream of creations waiting in my mind – and often the only thing keeping them there is the time it takes to make them reality. It is a time consuming process and many of the pieces that I make are often very delicate and fragile.

Each piece is made individually, by hand, many are one off, which may be recreated, although never exactly the same.

I am happy to consider commissions.

Thanks for reading!
Lucy

Spotlight on The Seller.....Terrence and Bear

Terrence and Bear specialises in baby/children’s wear, soft furnishing and handmade gifts and was started to satisfy my need to be creative. Sewing and tailoring have always been part of my life due to my Grandmother being a tailor. I have very fond memories of picking out patterns of dresses I liked and drawing my ideas for my grandmother to bring to life.

I began my sewing career in Bridal Wear and for the past ten years have made many bridesmaid, flower girl and wedding dresses. Last year I was faced with a large number of friends having babies and decided to design some baby outfits, dresses, bibs and blankets as gifts. The response to the gifts was incredible and as the word spread, friends of friends began asking where they could purchase the baby clothes and accessories hence the start of Terrence and Bear.

I get my inspiration for the baby/children’s wear from my own style which has been described as vintage inspired and classic. Generally I am happy with a piece if I think I would happily wear it and often have mothers asking if the dresses are available in adult sizes.

I love traditional fabrics such as florals in 100% Cotton for Spring/Summer and Tartans, Wools, Tweeds and Corduroys in Autumn/ Winter. I often use classic designs that fit well and are practical for both children/babies and parents including back opening dresses, elasticated waist skirts, waistcoats, bowties and dungarees.

I also offer a made to measure occasion wear service for example weddings, christenings, birthday celebrations where each item is made specifically to the customers’ requirements. This is available for both baby/children and adults

Terrence and Bear is currently expanding to offer home wear , soft furnishings, gifts and accessories

Spotlight on The Seller ....‘Get Knotted’ Macramé accessories Adele Wilson

Adele Graduated in 2008 with a Textile and Surface Design Degree at Buckinghamshire New University. Unfortunately she wasn’t able to go to uni for a while due to a case of shingles! And this is when she took it upon herself to learn macramé!

And it all started from there…… when she left uni she had an amazing opportunity to work in Paris for couture fashion designers Peachoo and Krejberg, creating 9 garments for their Autumn/Winter collection 2009.

Adele then took to working freelance design for knitwear studios in London and Nottingham. Through an internship, Adele worked for Mark Fast studio, here meeting Jacey Withers a jewellery designer and helped him with his collections.

Her experience led her to setting up ‘Get Knotted’ and continuing with her obsession with all things macramé! Creating necklaces, bracelets, brooches, earrings and decorations, all hand made at home in West Yorkshire.

Adele likes the idea of taking a traditional craft and bringing it up to date. Incorporating her love of animals and colour. Inspiration from different cultures and nature. She welcomes commissions for extra special items.
